Baking Again

pat-a-cake, pat-a-cake, baker's man,
bake me a cake as fast as you can,
pat it and prick it and mark it with 'B',
and put it in the oven for baby and me.

i remember singing this rhyme to my little Girl when she was a toddler but can't think if i ever did it for my Boy - hmmm....

it's been a couple of months now since i've baked (a cake) - i did a batch of chocolate cookies last week which didn't turn out quite right (it was eatable though). kids liked it - they'll eat anything chocolate anyways.

my very basic butter cake so what you'll need:

250 gm flour (i use self raising)
250 gm butter
250 gm sugar (use less if you don't want it to be too sweet)
2 teaspoon vanilla
4 eggs

method:

beat sugar and butter till creamy. add eggs one at a time. then add the vanilla and mix in. next add the flour gradually and fold in. pour into the well lined tin and bake for 45 minutes at 150 degrees.

only reason my Girl will help me

just in case you're wondering what those black spots on my butter cake!

will be baking a chocolate cake tomorrow for my Mum to take back to S'kan for my Sister's birthday - yes, another chocolate lover!

Piano Exam

this is the constant argument that i've been having with my Girl since last year as she hates practising the piano but wants to learn.

today my not so little Girl sat for her Grade 1 piano exam conducted by the Associated Board of the Royal School of Music - her anxious Mum forgot to take pictures lah so have to make do with shots from the hotel website :(

waiting room for anxious/nervous mums and dads - exact room but they remove the bed lah

it was held at the Imperial International Hotel, Warisan Square on the 8th Flr Room 830 - forgot to beli number! she was the third person to go in - no parents allowed only the examiner and student. so not sure how she did - her piano teacher says that she's good only that she lacks confidence (what else is new). the result will be out on the 26th of this month.

i'm keeping my fingers and toes cross!!

Sunday Movie

earlier yesterday evening i saw that The Proposal was going to be showing on Astro Star Movies and since i was in a mood for a movie that didn't require me to think too much decided to stay up and watch it. the biggest reason i wanted to watch the movie was because Sandra happens to be one of my favourite actress! how can you not like her? she's beautiful, smart and funny.

Margaret Tate (Sandra Bullock) is the poster woman for boss from hell. She is senior editor for a huge publishing firm in NY and though maybe not dressed in Prada she is certainly a devil. When she discovers that she may be deported back to Canada due to an expired work visa she coerces her browbeaten assistant Andrew (Ryan Reynolds) to marry her in order to keep her in the country. He agrees but in return he would be promoted to editor and she would also publish his book. To convince the skeptical agent of the immigration department assigned to her case that they are really in love, they travel to Sitka (Alaska) for the weekend to celebrate the ninetieth birthday of Andrew's grandmother.

"No. Say it like you mean it."

love Betty White as the sassy grandmother

not forgetting the waiter, store clerk, stripper and pastor (Ramone) - ha ha ha

if you are a fan of Sandra Bullock or Ryan Reynolds then you shouldn't miss the chance to watch this movie - they work well together.

TGIF

when did the month change?! it's July already?? that's one thing i find really scary these days - time passing me by without me realising it.....*gives self a slap* focus already will ya.

went back to the gym after a five week sabbatical. it's disgustingly ridiculous (??) how unfit i've become in that short period of time. my butt felt like it was going to cramp (sorry too much info!) halfway into the training. thanks Monica for the workout. oh yeah.....i'm going to hurt tomorrow.

hope everyone have some exciting plans this weekend. it's my turn to teach this Sunday then we have been invited to a birthday lunch for a cute one year old.

leaving you with this music video by Norah Jones. can you picture yourself in the car driving down the highway going nowhere in particular? enjoy.

Come Away With Me - Norah Jones from Luiz on Vimeo.

Come away with me in the night
Come away with me
And I will write you a song

Come away with me on a bus
Come away where they cant tempt us
With their lies

I want to walk with you
On a cloudy day
In fields where the yellow grass grows
knee-high
So wont you try to come

Come away with me and we'll kiss
On a mountaintop
Come away with me
And i'll never stop loving you

And I want to wake up with the rain
Falling on a tin roof
While I'm safe there in your arms
So all I ask is for you
To come away with me in the night
Come away with me

Anything Chocolate

My momma always said, "Life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get." - Forrest Gump

we are a family of chocolate lovers. Husband and the Kids will eat anything made out of chocolate (can't stress this enough). me? i prefer plain dark or bitter chocolate but if my stash of chocolate habis will eat the ones with nuts or fruits in them with the exception of white chocolate. i just hate white chocolate - i find it too sweet and taste funny lah. the Kids just love it! like i said they would eat anything chocolate.

since my Kids have finished off all the chocolates that Husband brought back from KL (airport), i guess i'll have to satisfy my chocolate cravings with these mouth watering photos for the time being.

come let us enjoy them together......yum yum....bliss.....*sigh*
