India Arie

Sometimes I shave my legs and sometimes I don't
Sometimes I comb my hair and sometimes I won't
Depend on how the wind blows I might even paint my toes
It really just depends on whatever feels good in my soul

I'm not the average girl from your video
And I ain't built like a supermodel
But I learned to love myself unconditionally
Because I am a queen
I'm not the average girl from your video
My worth is not determined by the price of my clothes
No matter what I'm wearing I will always be the India Arie

When I look in the mirror the only one there is me
Every freckle on my face is where it's supposed to be
And I know our creator didn't make no mistakes on me
My feet, my thighs, my lips, my eyes I'm lovin' what I see

I'm not the average girl from your video
And I ain't built like a supermodel
But I learned to love myself unconditionally
Because I am a queen
I'm not the average girl from your video
My worth is not determined by the price of my clothes
No matter what I'm wearing I will always be the India Arie

Am I less of a lady If I don't wear a panty hose?
My mama said a lady ain't what she wears but, what she knows
But I've drawn a conclusion, it's all an illusion
Confusions the name of the game
A misconception, a mass deception
Something's gotta change
Don't be offended this is all my opinion
Ain't nothing that I'm sayin law
This is a true confession of a life learned lesson I was sent here to share wit ya'll

So get in where you fit in go on and shine
Free your mind, now's the time
Put your salt on the shelf
Go head and love yourself
Cuz everything's gonna be all right

I'm not the average girl from your video
And I ain't built like a supermodel
But I learned to love myself unconditionally
Because I am a queen
I'm not the average girl from your video
My worth is not determined by the price of my clothes
No matter what I'm wearing I will always be the India Arie

Keep your fancy drinks and your expensive minks
I don't need that to have a good time
Keep your expensive car and your Caviar
All I need is my guitar
Keep your krystyle and your pistol
I'd rather have a pretty piece of Crystal
Don't need your silicon I prefer my own
What God gave me is just fine

I'm not the average girl from your video
And I ain't built like a supermodel
But I learned to love myself unconditionally
Because I am a queen
I'm not the average girl from your video
My worth is not determined by the price of my clothes
No matter what I'm wearing I will always be the India Arie

The Expendalbles

finally we got to watch a movie just the two of us - can't remember how long it has been since we've been to the cinema without the kids tagging along! my Husband is a big fan of action movies (no surprise there) so i suggested we go see the new action flick with a lot of "mature" action heroes.

Barney Ross leads the "Expendables", a band of highly skilled mercenaries including knife enthusiast Lee Christmas, martial arts expert Yin Yang, heavy weapons specialist Hale Caesar, demolitionist Toll Road and loose-cannon sniper Gunner Jensen. When the group is commissioned by the mysterious Mr. Church to assassinate the merciless dictator of a small South American island, Barney and Lee head to the remote locale to scout out their opposition. Once there, they meet with local rebel Sandra and discover the true nature of the conflict engulfing the city. When they escape the island and Sandra stays behind, Ross must choose to either walk away and save his own life - or attempt a suicidal rescue mission that might just save his soul. Written by The Massie Twins

if you are looking for a "thinking" movie this ain't it. with the impressive list of action heroes it should have been kick ass awesome but this movie just left me disappointed - the action was great (the blowing up part) but most of the dialogue was terrible (seriously couldn't understand what they were saying!) - who wrote the stuff?! and what was up with the fight scenes?! scenes were jumpy and confusing - gave me a damn headache lah. i would have liked to have seen a little more screen time from Jet Li (as he's my favourite). luckly we went on Wednesday which only cost us RM12. it's simple - you either going to like it or hate it.

Phantom of the Opera

this is on my 'to do' list - to watch The Phantom of the Opera in London West End (of course). the musical first opened in the West End in 1986 and is now the second-longest-running West End musical in history.

The Phantom of the Opera traces the tragic love story (i'm a sucker for tragic love stories) of a beautiful opera singer and a young composer shamed by his physical appearance into a shadowy existence beneath the majestic Paris Opera House (based on Gaston Leroux's original novel).

no, this is not my Husband's cup of tea so most likely will be going with my cousin. hope i don't embarrass myself by crying ;)

Another Year

this was how i looked like forty two years ago. growing old doesn't bother me as i just look at it as another number. the only thing that sucks about aging is that you don't recover (doing sports) as fast as when you were younger.

Dad, Mum & baby Me

confinement lady & baby Me

Mum liked to put me on my tummy

yes, there's always a naked picture of you somewhere!

this song was on the Top 100 Hits of 1968 -

I feel it in my fingers, I feel it in my toes.
Well love is all around me, and so the feeling grows.
It's written on the wind, it's everywhere I go.
So if you really love me, come on and let it show.

You know I love you, I always will.
My mind's made up by the way that I feel,
there's no beginning, there'll be no end
cause on my love you can depend.

I see your face before me as I lay on my bed
I kinda get to thinking, of all the things you said.
You gave your promise to me, and I gave mine to you.
I need someone beside me in everything I do.

You know I love you, I always will.
My mind's made up by the way that I feel,
there's no beginning, there'll be no end
cause on my love you can depend.

It's written on the wind, it's everywhere I go.
So if you really love me, come on and let it show.

come on and let it show
come on and let it show
come on and let it show

Octopus Balls

you can now find this in Servay Penampang - i'm so happy! don't need to drive into town when the urge to eat takoyaki hits me. the first time i bought this the kids were screaming "what is that smell?! roll down the windows, Mummy brought something icky into the car!" yes, the smell of the katsuobushi (fish shavings) is rather overpowering - ha ha ha. i always ask for wasabi for that extra kick.

tako means octopus in Japanese, yaki is derived from "yaku" which simply means "to fry or grill" in Japanese. first popularised in Osaka where a street vendor named Endo Tomekichi is credited with its invention in 1935. to make takoyaki, a grill pan that has many small cups to pour the batter is used. thus takoyaki is also known as octopus balls.

i feel cheated after watching this video as there's a lot more ingredients that are not added over here. and did you see the size of the octopus pieces the guy put in? i want to go to Japan and try the original!

Seat Belt Please

love this ad - so simple and to the point. i'm starting today with a rant. i have seen people allowing their kids to stand in the front seat of their car without restraining the child or in the passenger seats or standing in the middle talking to the driver. WHY?! is the child's life not worth that much to you that it's ok for the kid not to be buckled up? or are you so arrogant that you think you are not going to get into an accident? or are you just a total moron?

yes, child safety seats are expensive and yes, i know not everyone has the money to invest in one but that's not a good enough excuse to allow a child to be standing unattended like that! seriously, someone explain this to me.

my Boy never liked the infant safety seat - used to cry and tried to wiggle out of it but i stood firm and just let him cry. even now i have to constantly remind him to buckle up and he knows that the car won't move till he is secure (he suspects that Mummy has eyes at the back of her head). my Girl has now started sitting in the front with me which i'm trying to discourage - my car has air bags and i'm worried in case of an accident it would deploy and being a child she would most likely get hurt.

there are certain things that i would overlook but not fastening your seat belt is NOT one of them!

Fruit Season

for the pass few days the smell of durian has been permeating the air round the neighbourhood. how to resist - so today decided to go on a mini road trip to hunt for the king of fruit after the kids piano lesson. we went along the old Papar road - ya, so far kan - an excuse to jalan-jalan bah. my Boy loves durian and could eat a whole fruit if he can get away with it. since he is still recovering from a nasty cough, he was only permitted to a few pieces - he was not happy. my Girl used to like durian but now not so much - she will eat only one piece which makes the brother happy cause more for him.
